my first watermarked photo!

Finally.. finally! Oh yes finally after being nagged so long by caring friends to have my own watermark to protect my photos from being used without permission and without proper credits, today I made my own watermark. wohooo sexy!

Ayooo creating n putting a watermark is really hard when you are not good in technology. So mahuan.  But what is not hard when you start learning them, right?

Now I know how to put a watermark. And jeng jeng jeng let me show off a bit my first photo with my simple watermark and it’s a panorama shot! How? Comment a bit, not on the photo, but the watermark. Er.. like that lo. Nothing special also..

It took me at least 30 minutes just to learn and put that GREAT watermark ok!

Finally in The Star

This was from The Star today. Friday 28/10/2011.

After waiting and trying hard for months since June, i'm seeing my name in The Star Thumbnails again today. 

Feel so touched and thankful.

I'm gona appear in NTV7 news at 7pm later =p

Good things are floating my life today.

Definitely not to boast, I am so thankful to those who made these happened.

After few times of rejection and continuous support and guidance from helpful seniors, finally, finally.. I'm given the chance to do stand upper and voice over.

This means i'm gona appear on NTV7 Malay news at 7pm today.

This is so unexpected and unbelievable!

I'm right now waiting nervously for the news to be aired in the newsroom. fuh..

Some of the seniors already congratulate me and they are so excited. Hahaha. Thanks Nadia, Sarah and Bob.

Thanks to Julie for encouraging me to try to do stand upper after I told her that the editors didn’t used it before. She helped me a lot in arranging the points and my presentation.

Thank you too to Kak Ron. She’s so high today. She freak me off with her harimau betina voice. But she is nice la. She can be playful when she’s not stress. I was so shocked when she’s ok to used my stand upper.

And I’m totally shocked.

I still have a lot to learn and a lot more to improve.

This experience is gona push me to do better.

Afterall, my internship is going to end soon. I’m leaving at the end of August.

Ok people let us countdown. Ehhee.

Pictures that tell a story

* An article about me was published in The Star yesterday. (Thursday 14/7/2011) hehehe. ok i'm not boasting ok. But good news like this, i should share around. After all, it's good for my portfolio and resume. =p

PHOTOGRAPHY buff Oh Chin Eng simply loved to take pictures of older people, portraying the simplicity of their life.

And one of his many shots titled “Home”, featuring an old Sikh man with a long beard, won him the third prize under the individual portrait category at the KL International Photo Award 2011 in April.

Prize Winner: Oh win third prize in an international photography contest with a picture portraying rich Sikh cultural elements.

Oh said he preferred to work with older folk as the subject of his photography.

“There’s a special bonding between me and them, especially when they smile for my camera.”

In the case of the old Sikh man, who was clad in a sarong, the picture captured was a production of assimilation in the plural society, said Oh.

He said he decided to document the Sikh community because they were lesser acknowledged in photography although they have a rich and diversified culture .

Up close: Oh taking an outdoor photo shoot at a park.

“Photographing them was a way to start a conversation and the shots recorded tell a story on its own,” he said.

Oh simply wanted his pictures of old people to be a medium of communication and to “convey a message of love.”

“I first bought the camera way back in 2000 to take part in a national-level photography competition organised by the Red Crescent Society,” he said.

He said winning the competition with the first merit prize had encouraged him to take up photography seriously.

Oh picked up photographyon his own.

“I observed how people composed their pictures to improve my skill,” he said.

Aside from actively taking pictures, Oh from Penang was also actively involved in non-governmental organisations such as Penang Heritage Trust, Anak-Anak Kota and rts-Ed.

“The participation in such organisations had widened my perspective in photography,” he said.

Oh strongly believes in unpretentious act, which was the essence in documenting people in his photography to reflect the stories behind each of his subjects.

“I would never ask people to pose for pictures. Being natural is definitely the best expression,” he said.

Early this year, he won the first prize of a photography competition organised by Kwong Wah Yit Poh. His photographs have also appeared in the The Star’s Thumbnail column since 2006.

On his future goals, Oh, a final year journalism undergraduate, plans to be a photojournalist.

“I hope my experiences and awards would help me land a job when I graduate,” he said.

In less than few hours, I’ll step into Sri Pentas for the ver first time.

I am so kinceong for my internship with ntv7!

It’s like a dream comes true. Right here right now I’m in KL and im gona do my intern with one of the good media companies in Malaysia.

I am very grateful to my lecturer, Mr. Teh Boon Teik for his help.

Although it’s just an internship but it’s gona be like a real working life. Working time is from 9am – 5pm everyday. I’m not sure whether I have to work during the weekends. What I know is no salary will be given. It’s ok. What is important is the exposure and experience. I am so sure that I am gona feel the moments that I’m not gona forget for quite a long time.

NTV7 office is just less than 30minutes away from where I stay. As I am taking bus to work tomorrow I have to go out an hour earlier. You know KL traffic. I have to be there by 9am. It’s clocking in time, everyone will be rushing for work.

This means I must wake up the latest by 7.30am. oh pls.. I dun wana be late for work on the first day. I hate myself for being late. Punctuality huh?? Hahaha. Okok.

Things to bring tomorrow: water, passport size photo, IC, gel, jacket.

Must gel hair, put perfume, shave my moustache wear my ironed coat by my mum.

It’s gona be a good awesome day tomorrow, as in later. I am so excited right now.

I wana make my family proud of me. I just wana improve myself in these 3 months. KL, I’ll show you what I’ve got!

May Buddha bless my friends who will be doing their internship tomorrow. And for my friends in UTAR, enjoy your first day of new semester tomorrow. =p

my first video

Jeng jeng jeng!!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to my first ever video production!!

Wahahaha.

I’m feeling so excited because this is the first time I make a video using a software all by myself. I am not an IT person. I’m bad in technology. That’s why I used about 2 hours to make this video. The Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 is so different from what I used to see few years ago. I think it has been upgraded.

So what’s so great about this video? It’s great because my effort paid off. I feel so satisfied because I finished what I’ve started.

This video is not shot by video camera. It’s actually a photo slideshows and I made it into a video so that I can post it on Youtube.

105 photos are used to make this video. I shot these photos back in 31/12/2009. It was 5am in the morning and I stood in front of Masjid Kapitan Keling in Penang for 30 minutes, waiting for the moon to set.

And I was so lucky because the moon was at its fullest that night, which was also the 15^th of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Besides than photography, I actually enjoy videography too. I want to be in the video and I want to produce video or movie too. The problem is I don’t have the tools to make it happen. Video camera is too expensive. Plus, my camera can’t take video.

Today I’m the producer, director, cameraman, and also the editor of my video. Hahaha.

back to life

I've reached home with scars, itchiness n loss of voice from the camp but sweet memories in the heart. tired but best!

I got an award for a video competition but it's the worst prize-giving ceremony i ever attended in my life. lucky but got cheated by the organiser!

anyhow, it's a bit of sueh plus funny and crazy weekends. =p

it has lifespan. once the battery is out of power, u also DIE lo. 

what im saying is, while you can still breath, make use of ur life, do the things that you u always wanted to do, things that u desired for, things that give you lifetime satisfaction, things that are useful to yourself and others. 

My life has been so colorful. Yes there are ups and downs but it's a growing up process that comes with great experience. I've tried almost EVERYTHING. I have no regrets.

buka puasa and celoteh

SELAMAT BERBUKA PUASA!! WOOHOOO! jom makan. it's makan time. i know la i tak puasa today but xpe.. kita makan sama-sama ye.. Bazar Ramadan kat Kampar Old Town memang best! punya banyak i sapu. tengokla apa i sapu hari ni. =p

ada Laksa Sanggul, taufufah, otak-otak, nasi lemak, cucur udang, jus pegaga, dan entah kuih apa benda la. best! sedap! i kan suka makan, kuat makan, hidup untuk makan. satu hari tak makan ok.. bukan apa, malas nak keluar. hehe.

hmm.. i makan sorang2. siapala kawan i yang puasa kat sini. yang puasa pun sikit tu je. semua pun balik kampung. sini area Cina.. Bazar Ramadan pulak jauh. so susahla students sini nak p sana.

i saw RM1 just now. no one dares to take it. so i took it. i was like thinking what should i do with it. kalau jumpa duit, rezeki la kan. but then i decided not to take it la cuz it's not mine. i remember i promised my ex before that i won't steal or talk anything that doesn't belong to me anymore. if not because of her also, i still pegang pada prinsip and maruah. kalau orang tak nampak pun, Tuhan nampak.

eh i took it but i donated it to to some guy at the Bazar Ramadan.best juga buat charity. hati rasa lapang. =p

u noe.. i puasa for a day only this time. yea you'll ask why must i puasa cuz im not even a Muslim. aih.. u won't understand la. it has to do with my previous relationship. anyway takde mood la nak puasa. u noe bila u sorang-sorang, buat apa pun xde makna kan. eh i tak emo. i cuma berkata benar. dulu i puasa cuz of her. now rasa janggal puasa alone. arrghh! memory masa lalu... she still lives in me la..

puasa this year is so dull. i don't feel Raya at all. no kick. no umpph! it's not like the previous Raya anymore. last time, i'll puasa, i'll go visit friends' house, i'll bermaaf-maafan with her but this year.. hmm.. i didn't even know that she's back. and now im in Kampar, not sure whether im going back to celebrate Raya or not.

it's funny you know when i see my friends' reactions everytime i told them that im going back to celebrate Raya. haha. they'll like huh?? why you wana go back? you Muslim meh? ayooo.. i ni Malaysian la. im not sure about you but i grown up in an environment where i accept, respect and understand other races and their cultures lo.. i celebrate all the major festivals in Malaysia.

waaaa walaueh u noe ah??? my roomate holiao oso lo.. girls always come to our house and see him one. yeala do discussion ma. but then hor most of his friends are girls. fuyoooo.. cayala! and all of them also PRETTY!! hahaha.he's quite good looking la.. =p

i went to the bank to get some money just now and i wana pengsan now! I am so broke now! serioous la. no lying. not joking. i terkejut sampai mata terbeliak bola jatuh pecah hancur looking at my account. aih.. how to travel? how to fix my laptop?

laptop is still sick. im now using my roomate's PC. tq Ah Liang. and thx to Tiffamy for fetching me from bus-stop when i reached Kampar. Thx to Rachael also for lending me ur laptop. muax muax.

im so kuai today. my bed is so neat now. i washed my bedsheet and mattress. i fold my clothes. i boiled water. i returned library books. i went to uni to snap pics. i arranged my notes. see how 'good' i am. hahaha.

oh ya! i miss her la.. how ah??

i am independent

I REALISED ONE THING. Not to boast but it’s a fact that I know the best of myself.

Wherever I go, I can survive. I won’t die. I can adapt to the situation easily. I can make myself at home. I know where and how to find things that I like, I always do and I need to be myself, like how I always been.

This is one that I’m proud of myself. I can be independent. I am. But im not saying that I can live alone. No way a person can live alone.

'Invitation' from the Guards

Ok this is what happened.

Around 7.15pm I went to the tallest building in New Town, Kampar which is the majestic Grand Kampar Hotel.

Oklo.. I went in la. I went there cuz I wana snap pictures la. people working there looking at me u noe.. I pretended talking to someone in the phone then I quickly got into the lift la.

I was like shit la. will the guard come and catch me and charge me for trespassing? I didn’t care much la. I went to the highest floor that can reach by the lift. Then I use staircase to the rooftop which is definitely a forbidden or kawasan larangan la.

Then in less than 1 minute, 3 guards came. THREE ok!!

I was like oh no..

Then they ‘invited’ me to go down.

Fulamak! I ni YB ke. Kena 3 guards mai ajak I turun. Hahaha.

He asked me what am I doing there. I said taking pictures la. then I said 5 minutes only, 5 minutes only.

But I finished shooting in 3 minutes. Then I cabut la.

Im so addicted to panorama shot recently. Can’t help it.

I went there to take pictures before but nothing happened. And that Derek Bong went there for an hour also nothing happen.

Why ah??

Hmmm.. maybe because I look too pro already la. hahaa.

I went there with short pants n sandal some more with a bulky tripod, look so pro with a huge camera. So obvious wana take picture. Of course they are suspicious la..

BUT THEN!!

Hahaa I got the photos that I want. Nyeh nyeh nyeh.

Westlake - From My Balcony

For the first time ever I took a panorama shot with my DSLR and I edit it with Photoshop. Yea first time ever I combine it with Photoshop. And thanks to Rachael Soh, she’s the one who merged the photos  for me using that sophiscated high-tech software. =p Thx a lot..

Hehe. im so noob in Photoshop la. what a lame photographer who doesn’t know anything about PS. Gua Buta IT ma..

The original size of panorama shot is 20.5MB!! gila! after cropping luckily it shrinks to 1.07MB only. If not I duno how to post here.

This photo of Westlake was taken from my balcony today at 6pm. I was so crazy with panorama shot recently cuz some of my friends have to take panorama photo. so i pun gatai la.. =p

I cooked so much. I must be crazy already. haha. I just feel happy to cook. Those who eat it also happy. and looking at their smile while they enjoying the food is so contenting. That’s the best part of cooking. N im so happy with that.
