我要学華語

I am a bananaman.

WHY SO?!

Because I'm a Chinese but I can't read Chinese.

I feel really ashame of myself.

Malu besar, kemaluan tak besar sangat lah..

anyway..

Language or mother tongue is the pride of your people and your root.

What is it to be a Chinese but you can't read Chinese?

Ok i am not that bad la, at least i can speak and understand Chinese language and I know about the history of Chinese, our cultures, beliefs, practices, taboos and so on.

Some even worse, they duno anything about themselves and they proudly speaking like the British.

Okla nothing is wrong but i feel as a Chinese, Malay, Indian, Iban or Penan, you MUST know your own mother tongue.

I learnt the language before in primary school during kelas tambahan, but the 1 hour lesson few days a week is just not enough.

Now i forgot everything i learnt.

Thanks to my sister, girlpren and thanks to UTAR, i can speak mandarin fluently.

But of course i don't understand the Chinese canggih words.

Now i want to learn to write and read. I'm 24 this year, not so old if we have the will to do it.

Google Translate can be handy at times but it sucks man!

SOmetimes u just duno what the heck it says.

Like now, i want to translate 'i want to learn Chinese language/mandarin' also so problematic.

I have to translate word by word and then verify it with certain websites.

aduih.. bodoh betul aku.

Language is so beautiful when it's able to connect people around the globe.

By the way my name is  胡进荣

Uhlala uhlala. Goyang sini goyang sana. Main tanglung sampai terbakar. Esok bulan penuh sure cantik giler!

Photo taken on the eve of Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival aka Lantern Festival on September 11 2011.

Nice hor? Creative right? You must do crazy stuff with your photos, if not boring kanasai.

Thanks to Edmund Lee, the one who snap snap.

Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 12 this year which is also the 15th day of the 8th month in Chinese Lunar Calender.

Too bad la, no mooncake. Must go get one biji in Old Town tomorrow.

Hopfully the sky will be clear tomorrow night so that i can stare at the round bright moon long-long.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone. 中秋节快乐

This is Oh Chin Eng by the way, if you don't know.

high religion tolerance in Penang

I’m so glad to see the high level of religions tolerance and understanding in Penang. It’s puasa month and also the Hungry Ghost Festival. There’ll be Muslim prayers at night. And the Chinese will have kotai or singing performance. The kotai people actually lowe down the volume drastically as a respect to the Muslim friends. Wow!

kan bagus kalau semua orang boleh baik-baik macam tu. =p

my first video

Jeng jeng jeng!!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to my first ever video production!!

Wahahaha.

I’m feeling so excited because this is the first time I make a video using a software all by myself. I am not an IT person. I’m bad in technology. That’s why I used about 2 hours to make this video. The Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 is so different from what I used to see few years ago. I think it has been upgraded.

So what’s so great about this video? It’s great because my effort paid off. I feel so satisfied because I finished what I’ve started.

This video is not shot by video camera. It’s actually a photo slideshows and I made it into a video so that I can post it on Youtube.

105 photos are used to make this video. I shot these photos back in 31/12/2009. It was 5am in the morning and I stood in front of Masjid Kapitan Keling in Penang for 30 minutes, waiting for the moon to set.

And I was so lucky because the moon was at its fullest that night, which was also the 15th of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Besides than photography, I actually enjoy videography too. I want to be in the video and I want to produce video or movie too. The problem is I don’t have the tools to make it happen. Video camera is too expensive. Plus, my camera can’t take video.

Today I’m the producer, director, cameraman, and also the editor of my video. Hahaha.

So let’s enjoy this short video clip of “Moonset on the Last Day of 2009”.

KALAU TAK UBAH SEKARANG BILA NAK UBAH!

KALAU TAK UBAH SEKARANG, KITA YANG AKAN TERUBAH!

KALAU TAK UBAH SEKARANG, MEREKA TAK AKAN UBAH-UBAH!

KALAU TAK UBAH SEKARANG, TIADA PELUANG LAGI MEREKA AKAN DIUBAH!

KALAU TAK UBAH SEKARANG, SAMPAI BILA-BILA PUN TIDAK AKAN ADA PERUBAHAN!

CNY: wonderful time

CNY is such a wonderful time when u get to see the toothless cute smile from your grandparents, play poker with relatives and cousins, visit old frens and have a long chat, meet up with god sis, get a warm hugsss, spend time with your loved ones, play firecrackers with siblings and most importantly blessing from ur parents, other than the typical angpau n cookies.

Thursday, 3 February 2011

CNY means..

Chinese New Year means we'll get more money but our parents will spend even more money.

i perform lion dance too

I’m actually a member of a lion dance troupe.

Not many people actually know about it. Hahaa. I guess I don’t have to boast about it right although many people really feel I’m a banana.

Every year during the first and second day of Chinese New Year, I’ll go house to house to perfrom lion dance.

This year, I feel a bit lazy. Furthermore, my brother is not joining me this year. He has to work. I’ve joined the troupe since I was 9. My brother joined in few years later.

I supposed to go for lion dance performance this morning at 7.30am but I woke at 8.45am. damn it man! Aih.. I missed it. I can’t go look for them coz I don’t have any of the member’s hp number. So I’ll go meet them at the makan place in a while.

I never missed performing lion dance everywhere. I guess it’s already my own culture. It’s part of me. I feel so awkward and guilty if I don’t go. It’s the Chinese tradition anyway. If we don’t keep doing it, the art and tradition will die off eventually. I’m proud of myself.

Mum has been very supportive and encouraging all this while. If we don’t go perform, she’ll start questioning. She was not happy this morning. Hahaha.

Lion dance performance is indeed a very tiring activity. At the end of the day, we’ll sweat, bleed, get darker, have blisters and pimples.

But of course, some of the house owners will give us angpau. That’s the best part. The small kids join the troupe because of this pull factor. But as they grow older, angpau does not really matter. They do it for the love of the art, the spirit of Chinese New Year, the sense of belonging and to have fun.

Alright, I’m going off now to produce good music, bring some prosperity to the families and get some angpau hopefully. =p

Gong Xi Fa Chai

It's Chinese New Year again.

woohoooo!

this year, i really feel the mood of CNY again.

it feels good.

but the bad part is i don't have money to go shopping as no mpney from PTPTN yet and Kwong Wah hasn't bank in my 3K.

anyway i wish everyone a prosperous, smooth, beautiful and colourful Chinese New Year. stay healthy and safe always.

remember, appreciate and love your grandparents, parents, sibling, friends and people around you.

Hope that this will be a new beginning with new and better things ahead.

Gong Xi Fa Chai!

Huat ah!

Ong ah!

中秋节快乐 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

According to Chinese Lunar Calender, today is the 15th of the 8th month.

We can see full moon on every 15th of the month.

But today is not about the moon.

Today the Chinese all over the world is celebrating a festival.

15th of the 8th month is about something else.

Here i wish everyone a very Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, Selamat Hari Kuih Bulan @ Pesta Tanglung, Tong Chiu Jie Khuai Lok and 中秋节快乐.

Don't burn down ur house with lanterns.

Eat more mooncake and u'll become beautiful like the moon.

Don't forget and always remember to do charity no matter where you are, what you do,

Share your happiness with the unfortunate ones.

Life will be more meaningful.

=p

I present you with this song on this very special day.

光良 + 品 冠 - 掌心

SONG of the day

光良(Guang Liang) + 品 冠(Ping Guan) - 掌心(Chang Xing)

my all-time favourite song from the duo. i listen to their songs ever since i was young.

it's like a trend, when a group is popular, they will split and go their own way. not all but quite a number of them. why can't they stick together till they are old??

anyway i like both of the singers. go Guang Liang go Ping Guan.

Friday, 13 August 2010

got ghost ah??

yes i believe in the existence of ghosts.

i also believe that ghosts can be more powerful than our faith, our religion.

there's a simple Chinese saying, "you don't disturb them, they don't disturb u la."

friends, don't freak urself out n this hungry ghost month la. dun go n tink about it la. u tot the ghosts so free got nothing else to do wana come n kacau u meh?? just do ur work. clean ur mind n heart. pray. everything will b fine..

The journey of life won't be always smooth. There are ups and downs. It's ur karma. It's ur destiny. It's how you respond to your surrounding.

Unlucky incidents are not because of the unseen brothers.

Have faith.

Just a reminder la. if you believe in this festival, then behave yourself. Don't talk big, don't simply shout, don't simply pee, don't go to dark places, don't step on praying items etc etc la.

be smart la people.

don't think too much k. =p

*argghh! stomachache again! kenot tahan la. gnite ppl. tata.

丁噹 (Ding Dang) - 我是一隻小小鳥 (Wo Shi Ee Zhi Xiao Xiao Niao)

SONG of the day

This is a very old song i used to listen to when i was a kid.

n now im listening to it again..but from a diferent singer with different style, different power.

She's Ding Dang. the singer of Autumn Concerto's theme song. she has a very unique voice. you know serak-serak basah.

The song gives me inspiration n SEMANGAT!

it makes me sad as well cuz it really touched my heart.

it tells a story of someone who's like a little bird, tries to fly high, to achieve dream.

I, too am a small small little tiny bird. i wana fly fly fly up high. i will do my best to see the world.

YES I CAN. YES YOU CAN. YES WE CAN.
